San Diego is very near to Mexico, and I’ve been to Las Americas two weeks ago. Las Americas is a place famous for it border international trading, so lots of people go shopping there on weekend.

Today we went to Mexico. By the way to go to Mexico is easy because  nobody will hold you back on the boarder entrance, but if you went back to the United State of America, you have to bring with you the passport and the relative certificates, only with these could the Customs of USA let you enter the territory of this nation.Maybe that could partly reflect the differences between developed countries and developing countries.

Before we took the bus, an American old man met us at the bus station, when he knew that we were going to go to Mexico, he told us that we should be careful, and humorously asked me if I wear some diamond on me, but I knew it was not just a joke, to go to Mexico is not as safe as we think and sure it is not as dangerous as we thought either.

The old man said he has been to china thirty years ago when he knew we are Chinese, and he said he doesn’t like Mexico at all because he hold that Mexico is a poor country so the some of the Mexicans like cheating  and stealing. Before that, one of oversea Chinese told me that she has been to Mexico twice and heard the sounds of gun twice. The old man told us do make sure the price before getting into a bus and buying something there, or we might be overcharged. I told him jokingly that we just go there to take some pictures.

It is really as someone told us, we entered the border gate without any trouble. Not far away from the border, an so called old town appeared, it is so symmetric to the Old Town of San Diego in America. But the differences are, the Old Town in Mexico is really too under-developed, it remind me some backward area of china. The street is filled with people; there is nowhere to stand still and nowhere to sit down to have a break. To be frank, I have gotten used to sitting and lying on the grass of America now, some times I take a nap on the grass.

I want to buy a name tagged but not so expensive backpack because the old one I brought from china is not very convenient to me, I got one NIKE in Mexico, it spend me $29, but I learned from the stores in USA when we came back that the same bag in America is about $50. By the way I bought a mask of superman for my son.

The street in Mexico is so dirty and the population is so dense, at least here give me such an impression. But we have to admire the craftsmen’s manufacture skills; they use stones to make scorpions and ants so vividly. The necklaces, chains and earrings they made are not too delicate but very special.

Cigarettes are cheaper in Mexico, about $24 per package while $40 in USA. We just received Chinese cigarettes so we don’t need to buy right now.

We have to wait in line for about an hour for customs inspection, fortunately every thing is ok, we went to back to UAS again, and then went to Las Americas again to buy 2 pair of shoes. It became dark and the road lights has turned on, we got to the blue line and went back home at 10 in the evening.
